In the men’s javelin the Portuguese record holder Leandro Ramos gave a good performance and won the Men’s competition with 78.57m, just 1cm further from Iceland’s Dagbjartur Dadi Jonsson’s 78.56cm. Spain’s Manu Quijera was third with 78.42m.

The best performance of the day came in the men's U23 javelin. Ukraine's reigning world U20 champion Artur Felfner justified his status as pre-meeting favourite. He was the only competitor to go over 80 metres with a first round throw of 80.09m. Lenny Brisseault of France placed placed second with 72.55m, and with a U20 world lead throw of 72.46m György Herczeg of Hungary finished third place.

Felfner's impressive win also means that he will enter consideration as a serious title contender at this year's European Athletics U23 Championships in Espoo, Finland in July. Herczeg’s promising season start may lead him a medal at the European Athletics U20 Championships in Jerusalem, Israel in August.
