Legendary Latvian javelin thrower Janis Lusis will be inducted into the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Hall of Fame, the organization reports.
Lusis will be one of the 12 former athletes who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the 2014 World Athletics Gala in Monaco on November 21, writes LETA.
Lusis is the only Latvian athlete to win gold, silver and bronze Olympic medals – Olympic gold in 1968 in Mexico, silver in 1972 in Munich, and bronze in 1964 in Tokyo. Lusis is a four-time European champion and two-time world record holder. He was also bestowed with the Order of Three Stars.
Lusis will be the first Latvian athlete to be inducted in the IAAF Hall of Fame, which was first introduced in November 2012.
