Latvian Zigismunds Sirmais, champion of the 11th European Cup Winter Throwing, showed his talent once again in the javelin throw. At the Janis Lusis Cup, held in Bauska on Wednesday, he bettered his own world junior javelin throw record by 22 centimeters to 84.69m on his first attempt.

The javelin competition was won by Vadims Vasilevskis with a throw of 87.11m, which is the second best result in the world this year.

With his record throw, Sirmais climbed to the 7th place on the 2011 world rankings, which is shared with Turkish Fatih Avan.

In the women's competition Madara Palameika confirmed that she is in a great shape and won with 61.72m. She is currently 10th on this year's world rankings. Sinta Ozolina-Kovala took second place with 57.17m and Lina Muze was third with 55.53m.

Zigismunds Sirmais' next competition will be this Saturday in Kuortane, Finland, where he will compete against Norwegian Olympic champion Andreas Thorkildsen and Finnish world champion Tero Pitkamaki.
