A competition called „World-Class-Meeting” was held first time in St. Wendel (Germany) last Sunday. In the cool weather, the best achievements were made by Mark Frank and Katharina.
Local hero Matthias De Zordo had to finish the competition prematurely because of a light injury after throwing 77.42 meters.
„It’s a pity that it happened on the home meeting “, he said sadly. „I had pulled my adductor slightly on the fourth attempt, when I wanted to speed up. It was a bit silly.“ Avoiding worse injury, he finished the competition and closed the meeting with 77.42 meters.
Only Mark Frank threw over 80 meters. The numerous spectators had to wait for the sixth attempt for the only 80 meter throw of the day. „Although technically that was not what I wanted, but with 81.52 meters a man should not be ashamed “, commented Frank his own achievement.
The women’s event ended with a small surprise. The favored Christina Obergföll did not manage to win with 61.30m, Katharina Molitor won the event with 61.99 meters, who finished one place behind Obergföll in the World Championships in Daegu.
„I didn't count on defeating Christina. Actually, I had only hoped throwing over 60 meters again. In the competition I changed it to 62 meters, but 61.99 meter is also good to end the season “, said the former German champion.
„It's a pity that my winning streak came to an end in Germany.“ a disappointed Christina said.
