National and African Youth javelin champion Anneke Germishuys has received just the boost her burgeoning career needs.

The Western Cape athlete is now the proud owner of a new weapon in her arsenal, courtesy of Miklos Nemeth, a former Olympic javelin champion (Montreal 1976) and former world record holder.

Nemeth also coached current world record holder Jan Zelezny.

Says Germishuys’ coach Daniel Damon: ‘Miklos is the founder of world renowned Nemeth Javelins in Hungary and this new Nemeth Club 75m Medium Composit 600-gram javelin is worth R14,000.

‘As a youth athlete, and throwing with the 500g javelin, Anneke has proven herself as one on South Africa’s most promising future athletic stars. The next step will be confirming this promise in the Junior ranks where she will be throwing the 600g javelin.

‘Our focus for 2016 will be on qualifying for the 2016 World Junior Championships in Russia and this great javelin will be a tremendous asset in the youngster’s arsenal of javelins.’

The 16-year-old Tygerberg Höer Skool pupil has a personal best of 53.10 metres which she threw earlier this year en route to placing sixth at the World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia.

Understandably, the teenager is over the moon. ‘This means so much to me,’ she told Road to Rio 2016. ‘Especially because it comes from Mr Nemeth himself, who is a world champion’s coach.

‘This will inspire me to carry on giving my absolute best and throw even further. So I’m really trying hard to qualify for the SA Junior team next year, even though it’s going to take a lot of hard work.’
