Roman Avramenko in 2009

Former junior world and European medalist Roman Avramenko achieved a new Ukrainian javelin record of 84.30m during the National Universiade in Yalta this past weekend.

He registered the mark right in the first attempt, but the second attempt was also a big throw of 83.13m. The former national record was 84.11m by Oleksandr Pyatnytsa from last year.

Dmytro Kosynsky, a European Championships finalist in Barcelona last year, also improved his best to 82.72m and took second place.
