German javelin thrower Annika Suthe has decided to retire after persistent elbow problems in recent years.
Suthe,
now 26, was the 2005 European Athletics U23 Championships gold
medallist and won a silver medal at the IAAF World Junior Championships
the year before. However, she missed both the 2008 and 2009 seasons
through injury.
She had a best of 61.38m in 2004, which is still
the German junior record. Her last competition was the 2011 German
Championships this summer, where she finished ninth.
